About Gandhigram Rural Institute

Gandhigram Rural Institute (GRI), established in 1956 as a Gandhian institute and declared a Deemed-to-be University in 1976 under the UGC Act, is a private deemed university located at Gandhigram, near Chinnalapatti, Dindigul district. GRI was founded by Dr. T.S. Soundaram and Dr. G. Ramachandran on Gandhian principles — focused on rural development, agriculture and community service. The institute is one of India's oldest Gandhian universities.

GRI has 15+ departments — Rural Development, Sociology, Economics, Anthropology, Political Science, Tamil, English, Education, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Statistics, Music & Performing Arts.
