About Indian Maritime University
Indian Maritime University (IMU), established in 2008 by the Indian Maritime University Act 2008 of Parliament, is the Central University of India dedicated to maritime education, training and research. Headquartered at East Coast Road, Uthandi, Chennai, IMU was created by integrating seven major maritime training institutes into a single Central University. IMU is unique as India's only national maritime university and operates under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Government of India.
IMU has 6 campuses — Chennai (HQ), Mumbai, Kolkata, Visakhapatnam, Cochin, and Kandla. Offers BTech (Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering), BSc (Nautical Science, Ship Building), MBA (Port & Shipping Management, International Transportation & Logistics Management), MTech (Marine Tech, Dredging), and PhD. Recognised by Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping); India's pre-eminent maritime training institution.
Admissions through IMU CET (Common Entrance Test) — a national-level entrance specifically for IMU. Applications via imu.edu.in. Medical fitness certification required for sea-going programmes.
