About Periyar Maniammai Institute of Science & Technology

Periyar Maniammai Institute of Science & Technology (PMIST), established in 1988 as Periyar Maniammai College of Technology for Women and declared a Deemed-to-be University in 2007 under the UGC Act, is a private deemed university located at Periyar Nagar, Vallam, Thanjavur. The institute is named after Periyar E.V. Ramasamy (founder of the Self-Respect Movement) and his wife Maniammai. PMIST is one of the few Periyar-affiliated educational institutions and admits women only for select programmes.

PMIST has multiple faculties — Engineering & Technology, Sciences, Computer Applications, Management, Education and Liberal Arts. Some programmes are women-only (continuing the original 1988 women's college legacy), others are co-educational. NAAC accredited.
