Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology & Research Academy (SASTRA) is a private deemed university located at Tirumalaisamudram, Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. Founded as Shanmugha College of Engineering in 1984, the institution was granted Deemed-to-be-University status in 2001 under Section 3 of the UGC Act and renamed SASTRA. The university is consistently among the top private deemed universities in NIRF rankings.

SASTRA operates three campuses — the main campus at Tirumalaisamudram (Thanjavur), the Srinivasa Ramanujan Centre at Kumbakonam, and SASTRA Chennai. It has 11 schools offering 100+ UG, PG and PhD programmes spanning Engineering & Technology, Sciences, Management (SASTRA School of Management), Arts, Computer Applications, Law (SASTRA Law School), Education, and Humanities.

SASTRA's B.Tech and 5-Year Integrated M.Tech admissions follow a unique two-stream model: Stream 1 weights normalised Class 12 scores (50%) plus a JEE Main 2026 score (50%), while Stream 2 fills 50% of seats based purely on Class 12 ranks. JEE is not mandatory. Other UG/PG admissions are merit + interview based; PhD goes via the SASTRA PhD entrance.

There is a single application form covering both streams; JEE is NOT mandatory. Other UG/PG admissions are merit + interview based; PhD is via the SASTRA PhD entrance.

Eligibility

B.Tech: Class 10+2 from a recognised board with at least 60% aggregate in Mathematics + Physics + (Chemistry / Biotechnology / Computer Science / Biology) in a single sitting. JEE Main 2026 score required only for Stream 1. 5-Year Integrated M.Tech: same as B.Tech. PG (M.Tech/M.Sc/MBA/MCA/MA/MCom): Bachelor's in the relevant discipline with at least 50% (45% for SC/ST/PwBD); programme-specific entrance score (CAT/XAT/CMAT/GATE) where applicable. PhD: Master's with 55%+ and qualifying UGC-NET / GATE / SASTRA PhD entrance plus interview.

Reservations

As a private deemed university, SASTRA follows its own internal admission policy.
