About SRM Institute of Science and Technology

SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) is a private deemed university located at Kattankulathur, near Chennai in Tamil Nadu. Founded in 1985 as SRM Engineering College by philanthropist Dr T R Paarivendhar, the institution was granted deemed-university status in 2002 and is one of India's largest multi-disciplinary research universities, with over 50,000 students across multiple campuses.

SRMIST operates campuses at Kattankulathur (main, 250 acres on GST Road), Ramapuram (Chennai), Vadapalani (Chennai), Tiruchirappalli, and an NCR campus at Modinagar/Ghaziabad. It has six faculties — Engineering & Technology, Medicine & Health Sciences, Science & Humanities, Management, Architecture and Law — offering 250+ UG, PG and PhD programmes.

B.Tech and M.Tech admissions to SRMIST are through the SRM Joint Engineering Entrance Examination (SRMJEEE), conducted in three phases each year. Medical admissions are via NEET UG/PG; management via CAT/MAT/SRMJEEM; law via CLAT and SRMHCAT; PhD via SRM Entrance for PhD.

SRMJEEE (SRM Joint Engineering Entrance Examination) is the primary entrance for B.Tech and M.Tech admissions, conducted in three phases. Medical/dental admissions follow NEET UG/PG, management uses CAT/MAT/SRMJEEM, law uses CLAT and SRMHCAT, and PhD admissions go through the SRM Entrance for PhD plus interview.

Eligibility

B.Tech: Class 10+2 from a recognised board with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, with at least 50% aggregate in PCM (60% for the Kattankulathur main campus, depending on programme). MBBS: NEET UG qualified with the cut-off rank. M.Tech: B.E./B.Tech in the relevant branch with at least 50% (or a valid GATE score). MBA: Bachelor's with at least 50% and a valid CAT/MAT/SRMJEEM score. PhD: Master's with 55%+ and qualifying UGC-NET / GATE / SRM PhD entrance plus interview.

Scholarships

Scholarships are available for eligible candidates at this university.

SRMIST offers tuition-fee scholarships based on SRMJEEE rank — top SRMJEEE rankers receive 100% tuition waiver in Tier-1; subsequent slabs offer 75%, 50% and 25% waivers. Additional scholarships for sports, co-curricular excellence and need-based students are administered by the SRM Trust.

Reservations

As a private deemed university, SRMIST has its own internal admission policy. SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwBD candidates are eligible for Government of India Post-Matric scholarships via the National Scholarship Portal. SRMIST additionally reserves seats for sons/daughters of defence personnel, NRI sponsorship and foreign nationals per the prospectus.
