About Tamilnadu Fisheries University
Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Fisheries University (TNJFU), established in 2012 by an Act of the Tamil Nadu state legislature, is one of India's first state fisheries universities. Located at Vettar River View Campus, Nagapattinam, the university is named after the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu J. Jayalalithaa. TNJFU was created by separating the fisheries colleges from TANUVAS and is the apex state fisheries university serving Tamil Nadu's 1076-km coastline.
TNJFU has 5 colleges — Fisheries College & Research Institute (Thoothukudi), Fisheries College & Research Institute (Ponneri), Erode Coastal Aquaculture Centre, and 7 fisheries research stations across coastal districts. Strong programmes in marine biology, fish processing, aquaculture, fishery economics and fisheries technology. ICAR-accredited.
UG admissions through TNJFU Admission Committee (state quota 85%) and ICAR AIEEA UG (15%). PG/PhD through ICAR AIEEA PG / AICE-JRF.
