About Maharaja Bir Bikram University
Maharaja Bir Bikram University (MBBU), established in 2015 by an Act of the Tripura state legislature (continuing the legacy of Maharaja Bir Bikram College Agartala founded in 1948), is the state university of Tripura. Located at College Tilla, Agartala, the university is named after Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya — the last reigning Maharaja of the princely state of Tripura (1923-1947) who is credited with modernising Tripura and supporting education. MBBU is the state-funded alternative to Tripura University (Central).
MBBU has 18 PG teaching departments organised into faculties of Arts, Social Sciences, Sciences, Commerce, Education, Engineering, Music & Fine Arts and Performing Arts. It affiliates 30+ UG colleges across Tripura. NAAC accredited.
UG admissions through Tripura state centralised system on Plus Two merit. PG admissions through MBBU PG entrance or CUET PG. PhD through MBBU PhD entrance.
